The good :
- Amazing views of the ocean with great sunsets and sunrises
- Entry fee is only $11 per person and no fishing license is required to fish on the pier
- In season the pier is open 24 hours a day
- You can catch many different kinds of fish here including spot, croaker, whiting, trout, flounder, etc.
- There is a ”corner store” where you can purchase snacks, bait and ice on site and a restaurant that stays open late on weekends
- There are restrooms open 24 hours on site
- There is a free beach onsite
the bad:
- It can be crowded on weekends and holidays. Sometimes your fishing line will get crossed because someone is fishing too close to you if they do not know how to throw straight out.
- The live music from the restaurant on weekends varies and no matter how bad it is you will hear it
- Fishermen are allowed to bring their own music and play it on bluetooth speakers and sometimes they tend to play it loud outside of their area. Some of the music people play is terrible and sometimes you luck out and it is good.
the summary:
On the coast of Norfolk, Virginia on the Atlantic Ocean is the longest fishing pier in North America. I stumbled on this pier one day when my wife and I were headed back from a road trip driving through Norfolk. What sparked out interests immediately was the large amount of cars and people that were in the parking lot. Why were all the people there? Ocean view has it all — a restaurant, a beach and a fishing pier. Ocean view has something for the whole family to enjoy.
Upon doing some research on it we learned the pier is also open 24 hours a day in season for fishing. It has amazing views of the ocean and the pier goes out so far there really isn’t a bad spot to fish from. You can catch everything from spot fish and croaker to flounder and cobia off of this pier. The best time to fish here is over night.
