One day I was walking on the national mall in Washington DC and I noticed a guy riding this smaller bicycle. He stopped riding and did something that blew my mind—he jumped off the bike and folded it up. I did a double take. This man just folded up a bike and started carrying it!! At this point I realized a folding bike was something I needed in my life. I started doing research on them to find the best bike that would work for me.
I searched for a folding bike that could accommodate a big and tall male. In Richmond, Virginia there is a company called Origami Bikes that makes steal frame high quality folding bikes. I went to their facility and picked up the Hawk model (rated for max 240lbs). What I like about them is they will adjust the bike to your desired comfort level before you leave. This bike is solid. I rode it in a variety of conditions and it held up well. My wife liked the Hawk model so much she took it.
I used this as an opportunity to try another company that was sold out previously of folding bikes when I was initially looking. Zizzo Bikes forte is the bike I purchased. It is rated for 300lb weight load. This bike is strong, does well on any surface and is well made. It is an aluminum frame. I’ve put this bike through it and it has taken every bump I’ve given it. Either of these folding bikes will serve as a great addition to your travel kit.
